Screening moves to fortnightly in Napak before the lean season

Acute malnutrition in Karamoja is seasonal and predictable. Admissions climb from March, peak around June, and fall once the first harvest comes in. Screening every month means some children are found four to six weeks later than they could have been.

From this March the Napak team moved to fortnightly screening at all parish sites through to the end of July, then back to monthly. It costs more in fuel and volunteer time and it finds children earlier, which is cheaper than treating them later.

Two additional community volunteers were trained in Lokopo to make the fortnightly rounds possible.
