Eight weeks, and a plan for the ninth

Nakol Christine, 31Napak districtChild Nutrition
A woman smiling while her child eats from a bowl during a community nutrition class.

The sachets finished and I understood that the food after them was mine to find. So I learned what to plant.

Nakol Christine, Napak district

Christine's youngest was screened at a parish outreach and referred straight into therapeutic feeding. He gained weight steadily and was discharged after eight weeks.

Discharge is where a lot of nutrition programmes stop and where relapse begins. Christine joined a weekly cooking group that works only with ingredients available within walking distance of Napak town.

She now grows amaranth and orange sweet potato on a plot behind the house, seeded from the kitchen garden scheme.
